SatLeo Labs, an Ahmedabad-based spacetech startup, has raised $3.3 million in its pre-seed funding round, led by Merak Ventures, with significant participation from Huddle Ventures. Other key investors include GVFL, Java Capital, IIMA Ventures, PointOne Capital, and angel investors Manish Gandhi and Dheer Baldua.
Transforming Space-Based Thermal Imaging for Real-World Impact
SatLeo Labs is pioneering high-resolution thermal imaging technology from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to deliver actionable intelligence across sectors such as agriculture, urban planning, environmental conservation, and strategic defense. The startup plans to use the fresh capital to develop its proprietary dual-band thermal imaging payload, secure regulatory approvals, expand its team, and scale infrastructure.
Bridging the Gap in Global Thermal Intelligence
“Thermal imagery from space remains vastly underutilized. SatLeo Labs is pushing the boundaries to make this data more accessible, useful, and affordable,” said Sheetal Bahl, Partner at Merak Ventures. “They bring a rare blend of deeptech innovation and real-world application.”
SatLeo’s technology aims to provide early detection of climate-related and environmental risks—such as wildfires, crop failures, and energy inefficiencies—that can lead to billions in economic loss.
“Each 1°C rise in temperature can shrink global GDP by up to 10%. At SatLeo, we’re transforming thermal data into tools for resilience—turning space-based insights into on-ground impact,” said Shravan Bhati, Co-founder and CEO of SatLeo Labs.
Pioneering Multispectral Imaging for Climate Resilience
According to Dr. Ranendu Ghosh, Co-founder and CTO, SatLeo is developing a dual-band, high-resolution thermal payload capable of fused multispectral imaging. This enables accurate monitoring and prediction in use cases ranging from sustainable agriculture to energy optimization and national security.
“Our goal is to empower climate-resilient solutions and reduce greenhouse gas emissions using satellite data that’s both granular and scalable,” added Urmil Bakhai, Co-founder and CSO.
Positioned for a Global Earth Observation Boom
The market potential for Earth Observation (EO) data is significant. Industry projections suggest EO could contribute $3.8 trillion to global GDP by 2030, with thermal EO alone capable of reducing 2 gigatons of GHG emissions annually.
SatLeo Labs is strategically positioning India as a global leader in space-based intelligence, offering cost-effective, reliable thermal imaging solutions with far-reaching applications.
