SquareX, a cybersecurity startup redefining how enterprises protect their browser environments, has raised $20 million in Series A funding. The round was led by SYN Ventures, a prominent venture capital firm focused on cybersecurity, with continued support from Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital Southeast Asia).
As the first company to introduce Browser Detection and Response (BDR), SquareX aims to turn any browser into an enterprise-grade secure browser — simply through a lightweight extension. This approach removes the friction of adopting proprietary enterprise browsers and significantly enhances both visibility and threat detection at the browser level.
Revolutionizing Browser Security for the Enterprise
In today’s digital landscape, the browser has become the primary interface for work, communication, and collaboration — and thus, the top target for modern cyberattacks. However, traditional cybersecurity solutions fail to provide visibility into browser-based threats such as:
-
Malicious browser extensions
-
Phishing attacks
-
Generative AI (GenAI) data leakage
-
Insider threats
-
Browser-based credential harvesting
While some organizations resort to deploying proprietary secure browsers, these solutions often introduce user friction, slow adoption, and hinder productivity.
SquareX bridges this gap by offering a seamless browser extension that integrates directly with existing browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. This gives enterprises the same level of protection as a dedicated enterprise browser, with none of the migration or usability issues.
Leadership Insights
“The browser is the new endpoint, yet it remains a major blind spot for most organizations,” said Vivek Ramachandran, CEO of SquareX.
“We built SquareX to eliminate the compromise between security and usability. Our vision is to make the online experience fearless, secure, and seamless.”
Jay Leek, Managing Partner at SYN Ventures, emphasized the critical need for browser-level visibility in cybersecurity:
“SquareX is addressing one of the most overlooked vectors in cyber defense. Their Browser Detection and Response technology offers unprecedented insight and control directly within the native browsing experience.”
Shailendra Singh, Managing Director at Peak XV Partners, added:
“We’ve backed SquareX since their seed round, and their execution has been outstanding. Their continued innovation in browser security is delivering real value to enterprise clients.”
