HORIBA Acquires Gujarat-Based Pristine Deeptech

GANDHINAGAR / NEW DELHIHORIBA India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the Japan-headquartered HORIBA Group, has acquired 100 percent equity stake in Pristine Deeptech Private Limited, making the Gujarat-based startup a wholly owned subsidiary.

The acquisition marks a strategic move by HORIBA to strengthen its capabilities in diamond-based technologies, particularly for semiconductor and quantum research, while establishing a deeper research and development (R&D) footprint in India.

Expanding Diamond and Semiconductor Research Capabilities

Pristine Deeptech is a research-focused startup specialising in the use of lab-grown diamonds for applications in semiconductor devices, quantum technologies, and advanced materials research. The company also brings expertise in vacuum technology, a critical requirement for high-precision semiconductor manufacturing and research environments.

By combining Pristine Deeptech’s domain knowledge with HORIBA’s analytical and measurement technologies, the group aims to enhance innovation across the global semiconductor value chain and deliver advanced analytical solutions to customers worldwide.

Building an Advanced Materials R&D Hub in India

HORIBA has maintained a business relationship with Pristine Deeptech since 2023. The acquisition formalises this collaboration and establishes a local R&D hub in India focused on advanced materials, positioning the country as a key contributor to global innovation in diamond-based semiconductor technologies.

The move aligns with HORIBA’s long-term strategy to expand its research-driven growth model, leveraging India’s growing industrial ecosystem and engineering talent base.

India as a Strategic Innovation Hub

The HORIBA Group has a long-standing commitment to research and development. Since the 1990s, it has set up R&D centres in France, the United States, and the United Kingdom, supporting innovation across energy, healthcare, and materials science.

India has increasingly emerged as a strategic location for global R&D investment due to its expanding semiconductor ecosystem and manufacturing ambitions. HORIBA has identified the country as a potential global innovation hub and has been steadily strengthening its local research capabilities.

HORIBA India’s Growth Strategy

Established as a separate legal entity in 2006, HORIBA India operates across three major business verticals: Energy and Environment, Bio and Healthcare, and Materials and Semiconductor. The company employs approximately 500 professionals and has maintained an average annual growth rate of over 15 percent.

Under the leadership of Dr. Rajeev Gautam, President of HORIBA India, the company is targeting revenues of 20 billion Japanese yen by 2028, driven by technology-led expansion and localised R&D capabilities.

Global Presence and Technology Leadership

Globally, the HORIBA Group employs around 9,000 people and operates in 28 countries. The company is recognised for its market-leading emission measurement systems, mass flow controllers, and advanced solutions across energy, healthcare, and materials research.

With the acquisition of Pristine Deeptech, HORIBA strengthens its position in diamond-enabled semiconductor research, reinforcing India’s role in the future of advanced materials and quantum technologies.
