Delhi-based beverage retail startup Basil Health has raised $1.5 million in a pre-Series A funding round to accelerate its expansion across India and strengthen its technology-driven beverage distribution network. The round was led by Whiteboard Capital, Brigade REAP, and the consumer-focused Barbershop Fund, with participation from angel investors including Deep Bajaj and Siddharth Kothari, among others.
The fresh capital will be used to expand the brand into new cities, strengthen supply chain operations, invest in brand building, and grow its team, the company said in a statement.
Founded in 2023 by Harshita Kejriwal, Akshay Chaudhari, and Karan Dwivedi, Basil Health is building a technology-enabled fresh beverage retail network designed to deliver café-quality drinks through compact kiosks and automated beverage machines.
Building a Technology-Driven Beverage Retail Model
India’s beverage market has traditionally been dominated by cafés, restaurants, and packaged drinks sold through retail stores. Basil Health is attempting to disrupt this model by combining automation, IoT-enabled machines, and compact retail kiosks to create a scalable beverage distribution network.
The company’s technology platform uses IoT-enabled beverage machines that blend fresh ingredients directly in the cup, allowing consumers to receive freshly prepared drinks while ensuring consistent quality and taste.
This system also enables real-time monitoring and operational control, allowing the company to manage inventory, machine performance, and beverage quality remotely.
According to Basil Health, the use of automated technology allows the brand to maintain standardized beverage quality across locations while improving operational efficiency and profit margins.

Expanding Organized Fresh Beverage Retail
The startup is positioning itself as part of the next wave of organized beverage retail in India, a market that is rapidly evolving as urban consumers increasingly seek convenient and healthier drink options.
Basil Health aims to build a national network of automated beverage touchpoints that can operate in multiple environments beyond traditional café spaces.
Currently, the company operates more than 70 live touchpoints across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Chandigarh.
These include a combination of:
-
50 square foot compact kiosks designed for high-traffic retail locations
-
8 square foot plug-and-play automated beverage machines that can be installed inside offices, hospitals, universities, and shopping malls
This flexible retail model allows the company to reach consumers in spaces where traditional cafés may not be viable.
Leveraging IoT for Beverage Automation
One of Basil Health’s key differentiators is its in-house IoT technology platform, which powers its automated beverage machines.
The machines are designed to blend fresh ingredients directly into the cup, ensuring consistent flavor and freshness for each beverage served.
At the same time, the IoT system allows Basil Health to track machine usage, monitor ingredient levels, and manage operations across multiple locations.
This technology-driven approach helps the company maintain consistent beverage quality at scale, a challenge that many traditional beverage retail chains face when expanding across multiple cities.
It also enables the startup to build a data-driven supply chain, allowing for better forecasting of ingredient demand and reducing operational inefficiencies.
Scaling to 1,000 Touchpoints
With the new funding in place, Basil Health plans to significantly expand its retail footprint across India.
The company has announced plans to scale its network to 1,000 beverage touchpoints within the next three years, using a mix of kiosks and automated machines.
The strategy focuses on building dense distribution networks in urban centers, allowing consumers to access fresh beverages conveniently across workplaces, educational institutions, hospitals, and shopping complexes.
This model could help the brand achieve faster expansion compared to traditional café chains, which require larger retail spaces and higher operating costs.
Growing Investor Interest in Food and Beverage Startups
Basil Health’s latest funding round reflects a broader trend of increasing investor interest in technology-enabled food and beverage startups.
Consumers are increasingly seeking fresh, healthier beverage options, while businesses are exploring automation and IoT technologies to improve operational efficiency in food retail.
By combining automation, IoT infrastructure, and compact retail formats, Basil Health aims to create a scalable and efficient beverage retail ecosystem.
The startup’s focus on standardization, automation, and flexible deployment could allow it to build a strong presence in India’s rapidly evolving food and beverage industry.
With fresh funding, expanding distribution, and a technology-first retail model, Basil Health is positioning itself to become a key player in the organized fresh beverage retail market in India.
