OneKiraana Raises $1.6 Mn In Funding

India’s traditional neighborhood grocery stores—popularly known as kirana stores—are entering a new phase of transformation. As consumer expectations around product quality, packaging, and delivery continue to evolve, technology platforms are emerging to help these small retailers compete with large organized retail chains.

In a significant development in the retail-tech startup ecosystem, OneKiraana, a startup focused on empowering kirana stores with private-label capabilities, has raised $1.6 million in a seed funding round. The round was led by Ankur Capital, with participation from GreenTrunk Ventures, VCMint, and a group of angel investors.

The fresh capital will be used to strengthen the company’s technology infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities, enabling it to scale its platform and support more neighborhood stores across India.

Building Infrastructure for India’s Kirana Economy

Founded with the goal of modernizing small retail businesses, OneKiraana provides technology solutions that allow kirana stores to develop and sell their own branded products.

The company believes that traditional grocery stores need strong technological support to stay competitive as the Indian retail landscape evolves rapidly.

Bhavin Soni, Co-Founder and CEO of OneKiraana, said the company’s mission is to help kirana retailers upgrade their offerings and build stronger brand identities in their local markets.

We started OneKiraana with the belief that kiranas need foundational infrastructure to thrive in a world where consumer expectations around quality, packaging and delivery are rapidly changing,” Soni said.

According to him, the next wave of growth in India’s grocery retail sector will come from neighborhood stores that adopt technology-driven solutions.

The opportunity is clear: kiranas that upgrade their offerings with the right technology infrastructure—better products, efficient distribution and an enabling intelligence layer—will capture the next wave of consumption and emerge as ‘bright stores’ in their neighborhoods.”

Helping Kirana Stores Build Their Own Brands

Traditionally, small grocery stores have relied heavily on established FMCG brands. However, private-label products are becoming increasingly popular as they allow retailers to control pricing, branding, and margins.

OneKiraana is building a technology platform that enables kirana stores to:

  • Develop private-label grocery products

  • Access mass customization capabilities

  • Use data-driven demand insights

  • Improve inventory management

  • Enable home delivery through logistics partners

By integrating these capabilities, the startup aims to create a complete operating system for neighborhood retail stores.

Soni explained that the company’s long-term vision is to give kiranas the same competitive advantages that large retail chains enjoy today.

“Today, we’re building the rails—product, mass customization, and hyperlocal intelligence—that enable kiranas to build their own brand identity and gain control over pricing,” he said.

He added that over the next 18 months, OneKiraana plans to develop an end-to-end retail operating system that allows small stores to compete with large-scale retailers.

Investor Perspective: A New Retail Infrastructure Opportunity

Investors backing OneKiraana believe the startup is addressing a critical gap in India’s grocery ecosystem.

Rema Subramanian, Managing Partner at Ankur Capital, highlighted the importance of technological infrastructure for kirana stores.

“At Ankur Capital, we look for opportunities where technological shifts create large-scale market opportunities. India’s grocery retail sector is currently at a fascinating inflection point,” she said.

She added that OneKiraana is building the infrastructure layer that enables mass customization for neighborhood stores.

According to Subramanian, combining technology-driven product development, efficient distribution, and last-mile delivery creates a strong competitive advantage for small retailers—something that was historically available only to organized retail chains.

Platform Growth and Current Scale

OneKiraana has already started building a strong footprint in India’s local retail ecosystem.

The platform currently:

  • Works with over 900 kirana stores

  • Supplies more than 3 million private-label products

  • Offers around 1,500 SKUs

  • Operates across 25 product categories

These products are manufactured and distributed through the company’s network while being branded and sold by individual kirana retailers.

The Future of India’s Neighborhood Retail

India has millions of kirana stores that form the backbone of the country’s retail economy. However, the rapid growth of quick commerce, organized retail chains, and e-commerce platforms has intensified competition.

Technology platforms like OneKiraana are trying to ensure that these small retailers remain competitive by providing tools traditionally available only to large companies.

By enabling private-label manufacturing, demand intelligence, and logistics integration, the startup aims to help neighborhood stores build stronger customer relationships and improve profitability.

As India’s retail landscape continues to evolve, platforms that empower small retailers could play a crucial role in shaping the future of hyperlocal commerce.

With its recent funding and expanding platform, OneKiraana is positioning itself as a technology backbone for the next generation of digitally empowered kirana stores
