Hyundai Motor India to Expand EV Charging Network with 600 Fast Chargers by 2031

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), the Indian subsidiary of the Korean automotive giant, has announced a significant expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure. The company plans to install around 600 DC fast public EV chargers across India over the next seven years, with a primary focus on key highways and major cities.

This ambitious initiative aligns with Hyundai’s commitment to strengthening the EV ecosystem and supporting India’s shift toward sustainable mobility.

Key Highlights of the Plan
Phase 1 Completion by 2024: By the end of next year, Hyundai aims to cover over 50 stations across highways, cities, and its dealership network with DC fast chargers.
Long-Term Goal: By 2031, the company will roll out a total of 600 chargers, providing extensive coverage and convenience for EV users.

Hyundai’s EV Portfolio and Sales Performance
Hyundai’s growing EV lineup includes the premium Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the practical Hyundai KONA Electric, both designed for performance and sustainability.

As of November 2024, Hyundai has sold 4,061 electric vehicles in India, reflecting a growing consumer interest in eco-friendly mobility solutions. The company’s push to expand its charging network will likely bolster EV adoption further.

Accelerating India’s EV Journey
With this initiative, Hyundai is not only addressing range anxiety but also ensuring that EV owners have access to reliable and fast charging solutions. The move is expected to encourage more customers to transition to electric vehicles, particularly on long-distance routes.
