BAAS Technologies Raises ₹5 Crore to Build Indigenous Rocket Engines and Reusable Launch Vehicles

Pune-based space technology startup BAAS Technologies has secured ₹5 crore (approximately US$580,000) in a pre-seed funding round led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV). The investment round also saw participation from SINE IIT Bombay and a group of angel investors.

The fresh capital will help the startup strengthen its rocket propulsion technology, expand engineering capabilities, and accelerate the development of indigenous launch solutions for the growing commercial space industry.

Funding to Strengthen Rocket Propulsion and Manufacturing

BAAS Technologies plans to use the newly raised funds to:

  • Develop advanced solid and liquid rocket propulsion systems
  • Build a dedicated testing and manufacturing facility
  • Purchase critical equipment and raw materials
  • Expand its engineering, research, and operations teams

The company is focused on developing cost-effective launch technologies capable of serving commercial, research, and government customers.

Addressing the Growing Demand for Small Satellite Launches

Commenting on the investment, Ankur Mittal, Co-Founder of Inflection Point Ventures, said:

“BAAS is building an end-to-end launch vehicle platform that reflects the company’s strong engineering capabilities and its clear understanding of the growing demands of the global space economy. By developing cost-effective and reliable launch solutions, the company is addressing the crucial market gap in small satellite access to space. We believe BAAS is well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand and contribute to India’s emergence as a leading space-tech innovation hub.”

Founder Highlights Long-Term Vision

Speaking about the funding milestone, Tanmay Kanmahale, CEO and Co-founder of BAAS Technologies, said:

“As a founder building in the space sector, where many ideas are dismissed at a very early stage due to the complexity and risk involved, finding the right investment partner matters as much as raising the capital itself. We look for investors who share the same conviction and long-term view as we do. This round with Inflection Point Ventures is a significant step for BAAS and it puts us in a stronger position to build our launch vehicles, grow our engineering team and contribute to India’s private space sector.”

Building Indigenous Space Launch Technology

Founded in 2024 by Tanmay Kanmahale, Prashant Patil, Atharva Pingale, Swayam Sonar, and Shriniwas Hase, BAAS Technologies is developing reusable sub-orbital and orbital launch vehicles designed to provide affordable and reliable access to space.

The startup is building its own solid and liquid rocket engines, with a strong focus on indigenous propulsion technology that supports India’s rapidly expanding private space ecosystem.

New Rocket Testing Facility Under Development

As part of its expansion plans, BAAS Technologies is also constructing a 100 kN Rocket Propulsion Testing Facility.

The facility will enable:

  • Static fire testing
  • Rocket engine validation
  • Performance qualification
  • Commercial propulsion testing services

The infrastructure is expected to strengthen the company’s research and product development capabilities while supporting future commercial launch programmes.

Expanding Beyond India

The startup has already completed several paid pilot projects in India and is now preparing to expand into international markets, including:

  • Latin America
  • Middle East
  • Southeast Asia
  • Australia

The expansion aligns with the increasing global demand for affordable launch services for small satellites, scientific missions, and commercial payloads.

India’s Space-Tech Ecosystem Continues to Grow

The latest funding reflects growing investor confidence in India’s private space industry following policy reforms that have opened new opportunities for startups developing launch vehicles, satellite technologies, and space infrastructure.

As demand for small satellite launches continues to rise globally, companies like BAAS Technologies are positioning themselves to play a significant role in making space access more affordable, reliable, and locally developed.
