Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has acquired two strategic land parcels in Andhra Pradesh and Pune as part of efforts to support OpenAI’s planned artificial intelligence infrastructure expansion in India, according to media reports.
The acquisitions represent a significant milestone in India’s rapidly evolving AI infrastructure landscape and underscore TCS’ growing focus on hyperscale data centres, cloud computing, and enterprise AI solutions.
Strategic Land Acquisitions for AI Infrastructure
As part of the initiative, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has allotted 200 acres of land to TCS in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam, a location emerging as one of India’s major data centre hubs.
The site is strategically positioned close to the Google–Adani hyperscale data centre, which is currently under development and expected to become one of the country’s largest AI and cloud infrastructure facilities.
In addition, TCS has acquired an 88-acre land parcel in Bopkhel, Pune, from Hemisphere Properties for approximately ₹641 crore.
According to reports, both locations are being considered for the development of OpenAI’s first India-based data centre facilities under the proposed Stargate India initiative.
Strengthening India’s AI Computing Capacity
The proposed facilities are expected to play a crucial role in expanding AI computing infrastructure as demand for generative AI, foundation models, and enterprise AI applications continues to rise.
Modern AI platforms require massive computing power supported by hyperscale data centres equipped with high-performance GPUs, advanced networking infrastructure, and energy-efficient operations.

According to reports, HyperVault has already received significant anchor commitments, including:
- 100 MW of planned capacity from OpenAI
- 200 MW from AMD
These commitments highlight the increasing demand for dedicated AI computing infrastructure as global technology companies continue expanding their AI capabilities.
