SYDNEY, September 2, 2026: MongoDB has appointed Richard Scott as Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), as the company looks to accelerate regional growth and help enterprises transition artificial intelligence from experimentation to production-scale deployment.
Based in Sydney, Scott will lead MongoDB’s regional strategy at a time when businesses across APJ are increasingly moving beyond AI pilots and investing in infrastructure capable of supporting AI applications at scale.
Richard Scott to Lead MongoDB’s APJ Strategy
Scott will be responsible for driving MongoDB’s growth and adoption across the Asia Pacific and Japan region. His mandate comes as organizations increasingly seek data platforms that can support real-time AI workloads while reducing technology complexity.
MongoDB’s intelligent data platform is used by organizations across the region, including LGU+, Cathay Pacific, Samsung and Woolworths, as well as AI-native and fast-growing companies such as Heidi, Zomato, Canva, Grab and Emergent.
MongoDB says it has thousands of customers and more than 1,200 employees across APJ, with continued investments planned across key markets.
MongoDB Expands Its Regional Footprint
The company has been increasing its presence across Asia Pacific.
In May, MongoDB opened a new office in Kuala Lumpur, while a new Tokyo office is scheduled to open in September. The company also plans to increase its investment in Japan in the coming months.
MongoDB’s engineering operations in India and Australia are also continuing to expand.
In June, the company’s MongoDB for Academia initiative announced plans to upskill 2 million developers in India by 2030, focusing on data and AI skills.

Scott brings more than 25 years of technology and business leadership experience to MongoDB.
Before joining MongoDB, he served as Senior Vice President for APJ at Salesforce. He has also held senior leadership positions at Informatica, Microsoft, SAP and IBM.
His experience spans enterprise technology, regional business development and organizational transformation, giving him extensive exposure to technology markets across Asia Pacific.
