HCLTech Announces AI Upskilling for 1,000 UP Students, HCL Group Plans ₹500 Crore Lucknow Expansion

October 6, 2026, Lucknow and Noida, Uttar Pradesh –  HCLTech has announced a major talent development and infrastructure expansion initiative in Uttar Pradesh as the technology company marks 10 years of operations in Lucknow.

The company plans to train 1,000 students across Uttar Pradesh in artificial intelligence and allied technologies during FY27 through its LITMUS program. At the same time, HCL Group has announced a planned investment of ₹500 crore to expand HCL IT City in Lucknow, adding up to 9.5 lakh square feet of capacity for technology operations.

The announcements were made in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and HCLTech Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra.

HCLTech to Train 1,000 Students in AI

As part of its focus on developing future-ready technology talent, HCLTech will provide AI and emerging technology training to 1,000 students across Uttar Pradesh in FY27 through its LITMUS program.

The initiative is designed to strengthen students’ capabilities in artificial intelligence and related technologies while creating pathways toward technology careers.

HCLTech’s TechBee program has already trained and employed more than 2,200 candidates from Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the company’s broader focus on developing local technology talent.

HCL Group Announces ₹500 Crore Expansion of HCL IT City

To mark the 10-year milestone of HCLTech’s Lucknow operations, HCL Group announced an expansion of HCL IT City with a planned investment of ₹500 crore.

The expansion is expected to add up to 9.5 lakh square feet of new capacity, providing space for approximately 4,500 technology professionals.

The investment is expected to further strengthen Lucknow’s position as an emerging technology and global capability centre (GCC) hub in India.

New HCL-GUVI Emerging Technology Centre

HCL Group has also launched the HCL-GUVI Emerging Technology Centre at HCL IT City.

The centre will focus on equipping students and professionals in the region with skills in:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Data analytics
  • Emerging technologies
  • Future-ready digital skills

The initiative adds another layer to HCL’s efforts to connect education, technology skills and employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.

HCL IT City Now Employs More Than 12,500 People

Since beginning operations in Lucknow in 2016, HCL IT City has developed into one of HCLTech’s key global delivery centres.

The campus currently employs more than 12,500 people and serves over 150 global enterprises.

HCLTech said its focus on local talent has been an important contributor to the growth of its Lucknow operations. The company also maintains partnerships with more than 40 engineering colleges across the region to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and create career pathways for students.

Uttar Pradesh Emerges as a Technology Growth Hub

Speaking at the event, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted Lucknow’s role in the state’s broader technology and economic development ambitions.

He said the state is working toward becoming a trillion-dollar economy, with Lucknow’s AI City positioned as an important component of its technology strategy.

According to the Chief Minister, HCL IT City has served as an anchor for Lucknow’s technology and talent ecosystem over the past decade.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra Highlights HCL’s Uttar Pradesh Roots

HCLTech Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra described Uttar Pradesh as the company’s “janmabhoomi and karmabhoomi”, highlighting the state’s significance to the HCL Group.

She said the expansion reflects HCL Group’s confidence in the talent and potential of Uttar Pradesh and its emergence as a destination for technology-led growth.

HCL Group was founded in 1976, and the company is marking its 50th anniversary in 2026.

HCLTech’s Expanding Footprint Across Uttar Pradesh

HCL Group is among the major investors in Uttar Pradesh, with HCLTech campuses in Noida and Lucknow.

HCLTech currently employs more than 50,000 people across Noida and Lucknow, with nearly 23% of its global workforce operating from Uttar Pradesh.

The company said approximately 75% of its employees in the state are local hires, reflecting its focus on developing and retaining regional talent.

Beyond HCLTech’s IT operations, India Chip, the HCL Group and Foxconn joint venture, is establishing an advanced OSAT semiconductor facility in Jewar, Greater Noida.

HCLFoundation Focuses on Community Development

HCLTech’s presence in Uttar Pradesh also extends beyond its business operations through HCLFoundation, the company’s CSR arm.

The organisation runs community development initiatives covering livelihoods, skill development and other areas across the state.

According to HCLTech, HCLFoundation’s programs have positively impacted more than 4.9 million people across 20 districts and over 3,000 villages, with women accounting for 53% of those beneficiaries.

At the Lucknow event, beneficiaries of HCLFoundation initiatives, including women entrepreneurs and people supported through livelihood and skill-development programs, were felicitated.

AI Talent and Infrastructure Expansion Go Hand in Hand

The combination of HCLTech’s AI upskilling initiative and the HCL IT City expansion highlights two important components of Uttar Pradesh’s technology growth strategy: developing skilled talent and expanding technology infrastructure.

With 1,000 students set to receive AI and allied technology training during FY27 and additional capacity planned at HCL IT City, HCLTech is strengthening its presence in a state that is increasingly positioning itself as a destination for technology, AI and GCC activity.
