HCLTech Opens ₹185 Crore Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru, Betting on India’s Next Wave of Chip Innovation

BENGALURU, India — September 8, 2026 –

HCLTech is stepping deeper into India’s semiconductor ambitions with the launch of a ₹185 crore Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru, creating a facility designed to take chip engineering beyond design and into testing, qualification and failure analysis.

The new 40,000-square-foot facility, which includes 25,000 square feet of Class 10K and Class 1K cleanrooms, represents a significant expansion of HCLTech’s semiconductor engineering capabilities. The company says the facility is among the first of its kind for a technology services provider to offer integrated semiconductor testing capabilities.

The investment comes as India seeks to build greater depth across the semiconductor value chain, from chip design and validation to manufacturing and testing.

From Specifications to Semiconductor Parts

HCLTech has been working in semiconductors for two decades. Its new Bengaluru lab is built around an end-to-end post-silicon engineering model, bringing together electrical validation, automated testing, qualification and failure analysis.

The facility is equipped with technology from companies including Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The objective is straightforward: reduce the complexity and time involved in moving semiconductor products from engineering specifications to qualified parts.

The laboratory aligns with HCLTech’s Spec2Parts business model, providing customers with a unified platform covering multiple stages of semiconductor validation and testing.

For global chip companies, that integration could help accelerate pre-production and production qualification while improving turnaround times and quality.

A Lab Built for the Post-Silicon Challenge

Designing a semiconductor is only one part of bringing a chip to market. Once silicon is produced, engineers must validate its electrical performance, test it under different conditions, identify defects and establish whether it can meet qualification requirements.

HCLTech’s new facility is designed to address those post-silicon requirements.

Its capabilities include automated test equipment, probing systems, qualification chambers and advanced failure-analysis tools. The laboratory also includes optical and electron microscopy capabilities and focused ion beam (FIB) systems, allowing engineers to investigate semiconductor failures at a highly detailed level.

The company plans to pursue certifications including ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 for aerospace and defence applications, and ISO 13485 for medical applications.

Why Bengaluru Matters

The location is strategic.

Bengaluru has long been one of India’s most important engineering and technology centres, with a deep talent base spanning electronics, embedded systems, chip design and software engineering.

HCLTech’s investment adds another layer to that ecosystem by focusing on the engineering and testing capabilities required after chip design.

The company says the facility will serve both domestic and international customers, making Bengaluru a hub within its broader global semiconductor strategy.

Hari Sadarahalli, Corporate Vice President and Global Head of Engineering and R&D Services at HCLTech, described the facility as an important milestone in the company’s investment in advanced engineering.

“The inauguration of our Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru is a proud milestone for HCLTech and reinforces India’s growing leadership in semiconductor innovation.”

He added that the investment is intended to contribute to India’s ambition of becoming a global hub for advanced technology.

The Bigger Semiconductor Opportunity

India’s semiconductor opportunity is increasingly moving beyond chip design.

As investments expand across semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, testing and related infrastructure, the ability to validate and qualify chips becomes increasingly important.

HCLTech’s Bengaluru facility is aimed at filling part of that gap.

By combining cleanroom infrastructure, automated testing, qualification and failure analysis within a single facility, the company is positioning the lab as an integrated engineering platform rather than simply a testing centre.

That distinction could become increasingly important as semiconductor companies look to shorten development cycles and reduce the number of external handoffs involved in bringing products to market.

For HCLTech, the Bengaluru lab is ultimately a bet on where semiconductor engineering is heading—and on India’s role in that future.

The ₹185 crore investment, backed by two decades of semiconductor experience and a facility built for both R&D and production qualification, gives the company a larger role in the semiconductor journey from specification to validated silicon.

For Bengaluru, it adds another piece to a technology ecosystem increasingly focused not just on designing the chips of the future, but on building the infrastructure needed to test, qualify and commercialise them.
