Cognizant Extends Gilead Sciences Partnership for Five Years to Advance DevOps and Agentic AI

October 8, 2026, India –  Cognizant has announced a five-year extension of its collaboration with Gilead Sciences, expanding its role in supporting the biopharmaceutical company’s technology environment, DevOps capabilities and selected applications of agentic artificial intelligence.

Under the extended agreement, Cognizant will support Gilead’s continued development of DevOps capabilities and the responsible use of agentic AI tools across selected technology programs.

The collaboration builds on more than a decade of work between the two companies, during which Cognizant has supported aspects of Gilead’s global IT infrastructure, platforms, applications and advanced analytics.

Cognizant to Support Gilead’s DevOps and AI Strategy

As part of the new five-year agreement, Cognizant will combine its life sciences expertise and technology capabilities to support Gilead’s development and operations environment.

The work will focus on practical technology use cases designed to:

  • Simplify technology processes
  • Improve delivery capabilities
  • Support operational efficiency
  • Strengthen DevOps practices
  • Enable responsible applications of agentic AI
  • Help teams execute priority technology programs more efficiently

The expanded scope comes as Gilead continues to strengthen the technology infrastructure supporting its business and scientific priorities.

Partnership Builds on More Than a Decade of Collaboration

Cognizant and Gilead have worked together for more than 10 years, with Cognizant supporting various elements of Gilead’s global technology environment.

The relationship has included work across IT infrastructure, platforms, applications and advanced analytics.

The latest agreement expands that relationship into selected DevOps and AI-enabled capabilities, allowing Cognizant to provide additional technology support as Gilead develops its digital and operational environment.

Focus on Responsible Agentic AI

A key element of the expanded collaboration is the application of agentic AI tools across selected technology programs.

Rather than positioning AI as a broad replacement for existing technology processes, the companies say the work will focus on practical use cases that can help improve delivery and operational execution.

The approach also places emphasis on the responsible application of AI, particularly as AI-enabled technologies become increasingly integrated into enterprise technology environments.

Gilead Focuses on Reliable Technology

Anna Berg Asberg, Global CIO, Gilead, said the company is focused on providing teams with reliable and efficient technology that can help advance important work.

According to Gilead, the expanded agreement will provide additional support as the company strengthens its DevOps capabilities and evaluates practical and responsible applications of AI across its technology environment.

The technology strategy is ultimately intended to support Gilead’s broader mission and its work focused on patients.

Cognizant Brings Life Sciences and Technology Expertise

Surya Gummadi, President, Americas, Cognizant, said the company will combine its life sciences experience, DevOps capabilities and AI tools to support Gilead’s technology priorities.

The collaboration gives Cognizant an opportunity to apply its technology capabilities to selected programs within a major biopharmaceutical organization.

Focus on Operational Efficiency and Program Execution

Mohammad Haque, Global Head of Intelligent Enterprise Platforms & Large Deals at Cognizant, said the agreement will allow Cognizant to apply its technology capabilities and life sciences expertise to Gilead’s priorities.

The work will focus on practical tools and approaches intended to support operational efficiency and program execution.

What the Partnership Means for Enterprise AI

The extended Cognizant-Gilead relationship highlights how large organizations are increasingly exploring AI through targeted, business-focused applications rather than broad experimentation.

For enterprises in highly regulated industries such as life sciences, the ability to combine AI, DevOps, governance and domain expertise can be particularly important when introducing new technology into existing environments.

The five-year extension also demonstrates the growing role of technology partners in helping organizations integrate AI capabilities into established enterprise systems while maintaining a focus on reliability and responsible implementation.
