Way2news raises $16.75 million in Series A funding

Way2News, a city-based vernacular short news app, has raised USD 16.75 million in a Series-A round led by WestBridge Capital and Sashi Reddi, a well-known venture financier.

According to a press release from the firm, this is WestBridge Capital’s first investment in India’s media and entertainment sector.

Way2News, which was founded in 2016, provides short news updates that have been approved by editorial personnel. It is well-known for its hyperlocal journalism, and it permits verified stringers to routinely write and contribute.

The funds  will be used to increase the startup’s user base in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. It will also invest in employing editorial, sales, and marketing teams, as well as scaling its sophisticated AI-based technology to reduce the need for human interaction in delivering trustworthy news, according to the statement.
