Modicare Achieves 100% Plastic Waste Neutrality, Leading the Way in Sustainable Practices

Modicare Limited, a prominent direct-selling company in India, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming 100% ‘Plastic Waste Neutral.’ Through its unwavering commitment to sustainable practices, Modicare has successfully collected and recycled 100% of post-consumer plastic waste and 100% of pre-consumer plastic packaging waste during the FY 22-23, fulfilling its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mandate. This significant achievement reflects Modicare’s dedication to combating plastic pollution and contributing to a greener future.

In its pursuit to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment, Modicare has collected approximately 1000 metric tonnes of plastic waste across 35 cities in India. The collected waste includes bottles, tubes, caps, sachets, and jars, exemplifying the company’s proactive approach to responsible waste management.

Statistics reveal that urban India generates nearly 62 million metric tonnes of solid waste annually, with 3.4 million metric tonnes comprising plastic waste. In response to this pressing issue, Modicare has taken decisive steps to address the problem by partnering with government-registered recycling facilities and implementing efficient door-to-door collection systems, effective segregation methods, and proper channelization of segregated plastic waste to authorized recyclers. By processing various types of plastic waste, including rigid, flexible, and multi-layered plastic (MLP), Modicare transforms these materials into reusable consumer products. In the FY 21-22 alone, the company reused 344.31 metric tonnes of rigid plastic, utilized 43.87 metric tonnes of flexible plastic for energy generation, and recycled 41.90 metric tonnes of MLP, showcasing its comprehensive approach to plastic recycling across diverse packaging materials.

Modicare’s achievement of 100% Plastic Waste Neutrality is a testament to its commitment to environmental sustainability. The company’s dedication to responsible waste management sets a positive example for other businesses and emphasizes the importance of collective efforts in creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for our planet. By taking bold steps to address plastic pollution, Modicare is paving the way towards a greener and more eco-conscious India.
