September 19, 2026 | 8:53 PM IST – L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and Tata Electronics have announced a strategic partnership to expand indigenous manufacturing of market-leading semiconductor products in India, with an aim to serve both domestic and global customers.
The collaboration brings together LTSCT’s fabless semiconductor design and engineering capabilities with Tata Electronics’ foundry, semiconductor packaging and manufacturing capabilities. The companies will jointly explore opportunities spanning chip fabrication, packaging and design-to-manufacturing optimisation.
Building an End-to-End Semiconductor Capability
Under the partnership, LTSCT and Tata Electronics will explore fabrication and packaging opportunities for LTSCT’s existing and future semiconductor products across Tata Electronics’ range of fab process technologies and packaging solutions.
The collaboration will also focus on optimising chip designs for fabrication, with the objective of enabling efficient manufacturing at scale.
The companies said the partnership will support next-generation semiconductor products across several sectors, including:
- Automotive
- Industrial applications
- Communications
- Security
- Intelligent-edge technologies
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the connection between chip design, fabrication, advanced packaging and manufacturing, areas that are increasingly important as semiconductor products become more specialised.
LTSCT Looks to Move Design Innovation Into Manufacturing
Dr Sandeep Kumar, Chief Executive, L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited, said semiconductor leadership will increasingly depend on the ability to industrialise chip designs through advanced packaging and manufacturing.
He described the partnership with Tata Electronics as an important step toward developing these capabilities in India and enabling semiconductor products designed in the country to reach global markets with speed, reliability and scale.
Tata Electronics Expands Semiconductor Manufacturing Ecosystem
For Tata Electronics, the partnership adds another design-led collaboration to its broader semiconductor manufacturing ambitions.
Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics, said the company is establishing semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in India to provide solutions across the semiconductor value chain to domestic and international customers.
According to Thakur, combining LTSCT’s fabless design and engineering expertise with Tata Electronics’ manufacturing, packaging and testing capabilities can support India’s ambition of developing a more integrated semiconductor ecosystem.
Focus on India’s Semiconductor Value Chain
The partnership aligns with the Government of India’s broader objective of “Manufacture in India – for India and for the World” and the domestic ecosystem development goals associated with Semicon 2.0.
For the companies, the collaboration is expected to focus on areas including packaging technologies, manufacturing excellence and quality systems.
The partnership also highlights the growing emphasis on connecting India’s semiconductor design capabilities with domestic manufacturing infrastructure.
What the LTSCT-Tata Electronics Partnership Covers
| Area | Focus |
|---|---|
| Chip design | LTSCT’s fabless design and engineering expertise |
| Fabrication | Exploring manufacturing across Tata Electronics’ fab process technologies |
| Packaging | Opportunities across Tata Electronics’ packaging capabilities |
| Design optimisation | Chip design-to-fabrication optimisation |

| End markets | Automotive, industrial, communications, security and intelligent edge |
| Global reach | Supporting products for domestic and international customers |
India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Push
The LTSCT-Tata Electronics partnership comes as India seeks to develop capabilities across the semiconductor value chain rather than focusing solely on chip design.
The combination of design, fabrication, packaging and testing can create closer integration between product development and manufacturing while supporting the localisation of semiconductor capabilities.
For LTSCT, the partnership provides a pathway to explore domestic manufacturing for its current and future chip portfolio. For Tata Electronics, collaborations with Indian chip designers can help connect its manufacturing and packaging infrastructure with locally developed semiconductor products.
The companies said the long-term objective is to advance indigenous capabilities and strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor industry.
